Vacation pt. I, Berlin
Back in November, two of our very best friends moved to Berlin. At the beginning of this year, Ian, our friends Sean and Monique and I all sat down and bought tickets to go visit them. Right before our trip, the 6 of us bought tickets to head over to Spain to visit our friend Simeon, and then the 7 of us headed down for a day in Porto. Two whole weeks with some of our favorite people in the world, seeing the cities they've been living in.
When we arrived in Berlin, Jens and Alyssa picked us up in a giant, old fashioned Ford Transit. They passed out German beers in the car, and we headed to their adorable apartment. We spent the next few days walking around Berlin- seeing the tourist sights, visiting smaller neighborhoods and areas of Berlin, and drinking a whole lot of beer. During our first few days, two more friends also came to visit and stay with Alyssa & Jens, so at one point we had 8 people in the house. It feels difficult to describe these first few days. I felt like I was in a dream- several close friends of mine have fallen in love with Berlin, so after hearing about this city for so many years, actually being there felt unreal.
Jens's family owns a farm in Berlin that we've heard many stories about. One night, we went over and explored the farm and the woods on their property. Rain sprinkled down on us as we moved around to each animal pen- pigs, goats, sheep, ferrets, hoses, cows, chickens. His family even built a small Hobbit house on the property that was perfectly adorable.
